In recent months, Qatar Airways has been progressing and heavily investing in a huge number of partnerships. This is due to the FIFA World Cup that will be hosted in Qatar next month as well as all sorts of international events in the future.
And today, Qatar Airways’ frequent flyer program: the Privilege Club and Visa launched an exclusive global partnership.
Privilege Club & Visa’s Global Partnership
Qatar Airways Privilege Club has signed a global strategic agreement with Visa, the world’s leader in digital payments, as part of a new 10-year exclusive partnership.
With the partnership, the airline and Visa will roll out co-branded payment cards with many different benefits such as complimentary worldwide airport lounge access, travel insurance, premium concierge service and much more.
In a statement, Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer, Thierry Antinori, said:
“We are excited to announce our latest partnership with Visa, a leader in the global payments industry. Visa connects our Privilege Club members to the world through their vast relationships and new opportunities for co-branded payment cards.
“This strategic collaboration is the latest development in our mission to provide an unmatched loyalty programme with the greatest offerings available, complementing other recent initiatives like the adoption of Avios as the new reward currency, refreshing the digital experience and enhancements in products like Cash + Avios.”
This will enables Privilege Club to enhance and expand its portfolio of co-branded payment initiatives with key financial partners across key markets worldwide. So I guess Qatar Airways are eyeing to jump into the credit card area to create its own card which has privilege club benefits.
While further is yet to be announced, I guess Qatar Airways will likely launch co-branded credit cards in the UK or the US.
Current Qatar Airways Co-Branded Credit Cards
Currently, Qatar Airways co-branded credit cards are available in the Middle East with three Qatari banks, one from Kuwait bank and one from Jordanian bank. The best Qatar Airways card in terms of benefits as of now is Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite by Doha Bank.
But in terms of Avios earnings, the Burgan bank from Kuwait offers 6 Avios per US$3 spent (1KWD).
If Qatar Airways launches a co-branded credit card in the US, it will be the fourth company that allows members to earn Avios and I am looking forward to how the Privilege Club will compete with Avios giants like British Airways.
Qatar Airways Privilege Club announced a 10-year global partnership with Visa. This means the airline is eyeing to launch co-branded credit cards in select countries to offer Privilege Club members who hold the card extra benefits that enhance the travel experience.
