Air Canada Aeroplan program has launched the last promotion of 2022 with discounts when purchasing points but the offer is somewhat weak compared to past promotions.
Air Canada Aeroplan Offering Up To 30% Discounts On Purchased Points

Through December 31, 2022, Aeroplan is offering up to a 30% discount when buying points. However, it looks like different members are targeted with different offers with some receiving up to 20% in discounts. So I’d ask you to check your account to how much discount you will get.

Here are the discounts based on points purchased (30%):
- Buy 10,000 – 19,000 points and save 15%
- Buy 20,000 – 75,000 points and save 20%
- Buy 80,000 – 95,000 points and save 25%
- Buy 100,000+ points and save 30%
While these are the discounts on points purchased with 20% off:
- Buy 10,000 – 19,000 points and save 5%
- Buy 20,000 – 75,000 points and save 10%
- Buy 80,000 – 95,000 points and save 15%
- Buy 100,000+ points and save 20%
How Many Air Canada Aeroplan Points Can You Buy
Normally, you can buy up to 1 million Aeroplan points per calendar year, there is a one-time purchase limit of up to 250,000 points. So if you like to buy up to the limit, you would need to make multiple transactions.

Air Canada Aeroplan Points Pricing
Aeroplan normally sells points for CAD$0.035 each and during this promotion, based on a 30% discount, you could buy 250,000 points for CAD$6,125 which gives you a rate of CA$0.024 per point.
On the other hand, members who receive a 20% discount offer will be purchasing 250,000 points at CAD$7,000 which is around CAD$0.028 per point. I wouldn’t say this is not too bad for a deal but Aeroplan offered a great promotion last month where you could have purchased points as low as CAD$0.016 per point.

Redeeming Air Canada Aeroplan Points
Air Canada Aeroplan program is one of my favorite programs and it has a variety of airline partners to redeem points, even with non-Star Alliance members. Aeroplan has the most airline partners than any other program so it is worth buying points with extra bonuses.
There are also advantages to why Aeroplan is one of my favorites:
- Aeroplan does not charge fuel surcharges on award redemptions.
- A stopover is allowed on one-way booking for just 5,000 points additional.
- The redemption rate is based on a combination of zone and distance.
The program also does not charge a high number of points for redemptions. For example, a one-way first-class ticket on Lufthansa from Central America to Frankfurt costs only 100,000 points plus some taxes.

Aeroplan also partners with non-Star Alliance airlines such as Oman Air, Etihad, and recently the program partnered with Emirates.

Summary
Through the end of the year, Air Canada Aeroplan program is offering discounts on points purchased. While different members will get different, members can purchase as low as CAD$0.024 per point.
I wouldn’t consider this promotion to be that great since there are other times when you can purchase Aeroplan points at much lower rates as well as you can easily transfer credit card points to the account too. But if you need points for short-term use, the pricing is not really bad.
