The newest promotion is not the best in line, however, there can be some value for short-term use.
Buy Emirates Skywards Miles With Up To A 20% Discount
Through June 26, 2023, the Emirates Skywards program is offering a 20% discount on purchased miles. Though this offer is less valuable compared to the promotions in the past, it is still a reasonable offer to get miles at a discounted price.
The discount is based on tier for up to 20%:
- Purchase 5,000 miles ~ 15,000 miles, get a 10%
- Purchase 16,000 miles ~ 25,000 miles, get a 15% off
- Purchase 26,000 miles ~ 100,000 miles, get a 20% off
How Much Does The Miles Cost With A Discount
Given that you can buy up to 100,000 miles, if you maximize the deal, the miles will cost US$2,400 instead of the usual US$3,000. That makes the value 2.4 cents per mile. However, this has a lesser value than the 1.95 cents per mile which was offered in the past.
Redeeming Emirates Skywards Miles
Emirates recently devaluated the Skywards redemption however it still has the best rate when redeeming on the Emirates flight itself.
Moreover, the program also has high fuel surcharges thus on flights departing from some regions. That is where the alternative way of booking Emirates comes up.
You can simply book Emirates from the Japan Airlines Mileage Bank program or the recently-partnered Air Canada Aeroplan too. Here are some of the Skywards award rates on Emirates flights:
- A one-way flight from Milan to New York on Emirates first class cost 168,750 miles
- A one-way flight from Dubai to Los Angeles on Emirates first class cost 186,000 miles
- A one-way flight from Dubai to Los Angeles on Emirates business class cost 157,500 miles
Although the devaluations took place, what I like about the Skywards program is the ability to upgrade using miles at the check-in counters and even on board and you can even use the miles to upgrade an award ticket!
