Cathay Pacific continues to bring back first class services to more destinations as travel demand is increasing. And later this month, another destination will be added with the first class product.
Cathay Pacific’s Current First Class Routes
As of today, the Hong Kong-based airline is serving only three destinations that offer a first class product. This is due to the pandemic restrictions which heavily impact the airline from operating overseas.
During the pandemic, the airline also grounded the Boeing B777s that feature first class and focused primarily on operating using the Airbus A330s and A350. However, as mainland China and Hong Kong fully opened and accepted tourists, Cathay Pacific slowly brought back first class products late last year.
Here are the routes it is operating with first class as of today:
- Hong Kong(HKG) – London(LHR)
- Hong Kong(HKG) – Paris(CDG)
- Hong Kong(HKG) – Tokyo Haneda(HND)
Although there are multiple departures to the above cities, the schedule with B777-300ER operation will feature first class products.
Cathay Pacific Adding First Class To Los Angeles As Of March 27, 2023
Another good news is coming to the airline as it will be adding first class service to the US nearly 3 years after the pandemic. Before the pandemic, the airline offered first class products on numerous US destinations such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, etc.
Hopefully, more routes will feature the first class products in the future however Cathay Pacific has a limited number of aircraft on its fleet since the airline has sold some of the B777s as well as leased them to Qatar Airways.
Last year, I flew on Qatar Airways-leased Cathay B777s to Zurich and this was one of the most interesting flight experiences I had. Seated on Cathay’s first class seat with Qatar Airways service was quite an excitement. Interestingly, Qatar Airways is now operating the leased B777 to Hong Kong so you could at least have an extra option to fly on this aircraft given that the first class footprint on Cathay is decreasing.
Summary
Cathay Pacific will be adding first class products t Los Angeles as of March 27, 2023. This route will be the fourth destination the airline will feature first class. It is great to see Cathay Pacific introducing more and more first class on its network.
On the other hand, unless you are willing to pay thousands of dollars, the award availability is still finding a needle in a haystack or you can put it on standby which hardly clears most of the time.
