Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan program is my favorite Oneworld program in terms of redeeming miles on partner airlines. Today, it has launched its latest buy miles promotion which can be valuable for your next award redemption.

Through September 16, 2023, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan is offering up to a 60% bonus when buying miles. It is believed that different bonus offers are targeted to different Mileage Plan members receiving different offers.
Moreover, keep in mind that this is a two-day early bird offer and hence, between September 17, 2023, through September 23, 2023, you will be receiving 50% off the miles purchased.
Based on my account I received the 60% bonus miles offer:
- Buy 3,000-19,000 miles and get a 40% bonus miles
- Buy 20,000-39,000 miles and get a 50% bonus miles

With this promotion, you have to buy a minimum of 3,000 miles in order to get a bonus.
How Many Miles Can Mileage Plan Members Buy
Most airline program limits the miles that can be purchased in a calendar year. Some may limit up to 100,000, and frequent flyer programs like Avianca LifeMiles or Air Canada’s Aeroplan let members purchase up to 200,000 and 500,000 miles each.
However, in the case of the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, as a non-Elite Member, they may only be credited up to a maximum total of 150,000 miles whether purchased or gifted. And bonus miles do not count toward the maximum total of 150,000 miles.
On the other hand, Mileage Plan MVP, MVP Gold, MVP Gold 75K and MVP Gold 100K Mileage Plan members have no annual limit on the number of miles that may be purchased or gifted.
Keep in mind that Mileage Plan sells up to 100,000 miles per single transaction so if you need to buy more miles, you would need to make another transaction.
How Much Mileage Plan Miles Cost
Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan sells miles at US$27.50 before taxes at a block of 1,000 miles. The miles can be purchased in increments of 1,000 miles up to 60,000 miles and in increments of 5,000 miles up to a maximum of 100,000 miles per transaction.
With the 60% bonus promotion, it will cost US$2956.25 for 160,000 miles. So each mile comes with a cost of 1.84 cents.
Redeeming Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Miles
The Mileage Plan program has 21 airline partners where you can redeem. Since Alaska Airlines joined the Oneworld alliance, you can now miles on most of the Oneworld partners plus select airlines from different alliances (Korean Air and Singapore Airlines).
Mileage Plan usually offers great award value on select partners whose awards are to be redeemed. For example, you can redeem a one-way Business Class flight between Taipei and Los Angeles with Starlux Airlines for 65,000 miles.
Furthermore, the program offers a free stopover with any additional miles, even on partners. These generous policies made the Mileage Plan program on top of my list to redeem on partners.
Mileage Plan also does not impose surcharges on most of its partners except Hainan Airlines, Icelandair and British Airways.
Through September 16, 2023, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan is offering up to a 60% bonus on purchased miles. With this promotion, you can buy points for 1.84 cents each. This is an early bird offer and afterward, the program will be offering up to a 50% bonus on miles purchased.
