During the G20 Summit which took place in Bali this month, Etihad Airways and Garuda Indonesia strengthened their partnership with more benefits between each airline.
The partnership made in the Business 20 (B20) is an event that is part of the G20 Summit, covers:
- Expansion of existing codeshare agreement strengthens both airlines’ networks beyond Abu Dhabi and Jakarta hubs
- Greater engagement between Etihad Guest and GarudaMiles loyalty programs allows members to enjoy partnership benefits across both airlines
- MOU to underpin exploration of additional areas of potential collaboration

Etihad And Garuda Indonesia Expands Codeshare Agreements
The codeshare agreement between Etihad and Garuda Indonesia was first signed back in 2012, and through the expansion, will be significantly expanded to nearly double the number of combined destinations of both airlines.
The codeshare will be beyond Abu Dhabi and Jakarta, spanning 42 destinations across Indonesia, South East Asia, the Middle East, the US and Europe.
Reciprocal Miles Accrual On Both Flights
Furthermore, the partnership between Etihad and Garuda will offer reciprocal mileage accrual and redemption to Etihad Guest and GarudaMiles members across both airlines’ networks.
Etihad Airways CEO, Antonoaldo Neves said:
“This expansion will serve as a platform for what we envision will be a deep ongoing partnership between our two airlines. We look forward to exploring comprehensive and pragmatic ways in which the two carriers can increase collaboration, enhance benefits and customer experience for our most frequent travellers and further extend the reach of our joint networks beyond our hubs.”
“This reflects Etihad’s continued drive for commercial sustainability and is part of our broader partnership strategy, which enables Etihad guests to access nearly 400 cities worldwide, in addition to Etihad’s operating network.”
The reciprocal mileage will allow Etihad Guest members to earn miles when flying with Garuda Indonesia codeshared flights and GarudaMiles members are able to earn miles when flying on Etihad networks.

Partnership On Cargo, Maintenance & Crew Training
Both airlines also intend to explore further areas of collaboration in light of current market opportunities and company requirements, including Cargo, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul, and Pilot/Crew Training Services.
Garuda Indonesia Group has a world-renowned aircraft maintenance and overhaul facility called GMF AeroAsia. This MRO facility partnered up with KLM Engineering & Maintenance, Swiss Air and Global Aviation USA, and currently serves a lot of airlines around the world.
