Flying Blue frequently launched bonus offers when purchasing miles and the new promotion is back again. Similar to the previous promotion, the program is offering members up to a 100% bonus on miles purchases.
Flying Blue: Buy Miles, Get Up to 100% Bonus
Through November 6, 2022, Flying Blue members purchasing miles will receive a tiered bonus. The bonus is offered based on how many miles members purchase regardless of elite status. But keep in mind that Flying Blue Explorer members are only able to purchase 100,000 miles per calendar year.
So here are the tiers of bonuses on purchases based on Flying Blue Explorer status:
- Purchase 2,000 miles, there will be no bonus
- Purchase 4,000 to 14,000 miles and receive 50% bonus
- Purchase 16,000 to 38,000 miles and receive 70% bonus
- Purchase 40,000+ miles and receive 100% bonus
Flying Blue miles are sold in increments of 2,000 miles up to 100,000 miles at a cost of US$63.40 per 2,000 miles. As I mentioned above, the base member’s purchase is capped at 100,000 miles per year not including the bonuses while elite members have no restrictions.
But there is a condition where Flying Blue elites can receive up to 300,000 miles on bonuses. This means they have a purchase limit of 300,000 miles in order to receive the bonus.
Redeeming Flying Blue Miles
Flying Blue program is one of the most used programs among Skyteam members as it has great value when redeemed on partner airlines. Although the program went into a massive devaluation and the award redemption rate soared to the moon.
The program uses dynamic award pricing where the miles needed to redeem for flights vary depending on certain conditions. Flying Blue also offers promo rewards every month so you can take advantage of that offer to score a cheaper redemption.
A one-way business class from Europe to the US on Air France costs as low as 67,000 miles plus tax. As the revenue ticket on the same route costs nearly US$3,000, with the buy miles promotion you can take almost 4 flights at the same price.
Air France’s one and only La Premiére first class can be also redeemed at a reduced rate with this bonus offer. Most of the time an upgrade from business to La Premiére costs 190,000 miles on a flight from Paris to New York.
Given that the price of Air France La Premiére costs US$10,000 one-way, paying only one-third is sort of an option if you really have no choices.
