It has been a couple of months since Iberia Plus last launched a promotion on purchased miles. And today, the bonus Avios promotion is once again returned.
About Iberia Plus
Iberia Plus is a frequent flyer program from Iberia, the flag carrier of Spain. The program allows members to earn and redeem Avios on a wide range of partners. Interestingly, Iberia Plus has six tiers where Iberia Plus INFINITA PRIME, the ultra top-tier level, is earned when you fly at least 4,000 intra-European flights on full business class fare.
Being part of IAG Group, one of the best benefits of the Iberia Plus program is its ability to transfer Avios without cost to the other IAG Group member airlines such as British Airways.
50% Bonus On Iberia Plus Avios
From September 29, 2022, thru October 3, 2022, Iberia Plus members who purchase Avios will receive a 50% bonus when purchasing 2,000 Avios and above in a single transaction.
The maximum Avios that can be purchased is 200,000 a calendar year so with this offer members are able to earn up to 300,000 Avios during this promotion.
There are some terms and conditions to follow:
- This offer is only valid when you Purchase or Gift 2,000 Avios and above. The offer is not valid when you Purchase or Gift 1,000 Avios.
- This offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other Purchase Avios offer.
- Avios can only be bought in specified amounts, starting at a minimum of 1,000 Avios.
- The Purchaser must have at least one Avios in their Iberia Plus account in order to buy Avios. If the Purchaser has a balance of zero Avios, they will need to have collected or redeemed Avios in the past 36 months in order to buy Avios.
Iberia Plus Avios Pricing
Iberia Plus Avios can be purchased from 1,000 Avios starting from 36 euros. But the cost varies by how much Avios are purchased.
From 1,000 ~ 5,000 Avios, the prices increase consistently to 18 euros but the pricing changes from 6,000 Avios and above. The more the Avios are purchased the lower the cost per Avios.
The next thing members should be aware of is similar to Avios purchases with British Airways Executive Club, the currency varies depending on where the account is registered. And this really makes a big difference in the final price.
For example, when purchasing 300,000 Iberia Plus Avios which includes the 50% bonus:
- If your account is registered in the US, you’ll have to pay US$5,523.
- If your account is registered in the EU, you’ll pay only 3,601 euros which is around US$3,535.
So as you can see, the difference in the final amount is quite huge. You might think that making a new account under a European address will be able to make you purchase the Avios but beware you must be a holder of the Iberia Plus account for at least 3 months or have a balance of more than 0 Avios.
Redeeming Iberia Plus Avios
Iberia Plus offers great deals when redeeming flights from Europe to the US. Iberia has an Avios Calculator webpage where you can check for offers and check out the Avios requirements.
The airline has notable award pricing when it comes to flying on Iberia or British Airways. For example, a one-way business class on Iberia from Madrid to Chicago cost only 34,000 Avios, or a one-way from Madrid to Rio De Janeiro costs 42,500 Avios.
You can also transfer Iberia Plus Avios to British Airways Executive Club, Qatar Airways Privilege Club and Aer Lingus Aerclub as they all use Avios as their frequent flyer program currency. This will allow a wide option to redeem on Oneworld partners.
Iberia Plus Avios Expiry
Yes, with the exception of the two ultra top-tier members, Iberia Plus Avios will reset if there are no activities for 36 months. You do not have to necessarily fly to keep the Avios alive instead a transfer and redemption will be enough as long as it shows any activities in your profile.
Summary
