This weekend, I will be flying out to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to spend a weekend with my parents. It is more of an impulse decision rather than a planned one as my mom was returning back to Vietnam after spending some time in Korea, I decided to follow her. Moreover, it’s lucky that the Korean Air aircraft she took changed from a common Airbus A330s to a rarer Boeing B787 Dreamliner.
Korean Air deploying B787 to any Asian routes is pretty uncommon nowadays and I have not flown on the 787s for a long time. Currently, the majority of Asian destinations are exclusively served with A330s while B787s and B777s are sent to Europe and the US. This is why it is an opportunity for me to decide to fly to Ho Chi Minh City with her for the weekend.
There are a few things I am looking forward to this trip:
- Korean Air Prestige Class Lounge East (Reopened recently)
- Korean Air B787-9
- Vietnam Airlines A350
- Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City (Still Pending)
The Flights From/To Seoul:
Currently, July and August are the peak season for holidays and with the increasing demand for international travel, award seats and even revenue tickets with skyrocketing prices are almost sold out as well.
Luckily, I managed to snap an Economy Award seat. I redeemed 30,000 Korean Air SKYPASS miles which I transferred from my Marriott Bonvoy last month.
On my return flight, I am flying back in coach with Vietnam Airlines Airbus A350 which I paid a relatively gracious US$277 for a one-way from Ho Chi Minh City(SGN) to Seoul(ICN).
Hotels In Ho Chi Minh City:
I am still undecided on which hotel I should book for a night’s stay. There are many great hotels in Ho Chi Minh City and I am planning to take my parents out to stay as well. So it is taking some time to make a decision on which hotels will be best for my parents. Few on my list right now are:
- Park Hyatt Saigon
- Intercontinental: Saigon
- The Reverie Saigon
- Hôtel des Arts Saigon – MGallery
I have only stayed at Intercontinental: Saigon a couple of times so far and would love to try out different properties this time. But let’s see as I need to stay 10 more nights to reach IHG One Reward’s Diamond Status next 5 months.
Summary:
Another impulse getaway this weekend but I am excited to be back on board both Korean Air’s Dreamliner and Vietnam Airlines’ A350. Also, this is my visit to Vietnam for the first time in nearly 3 years. Hopefully, there will be no last-minute equipment changes.
I have been traveling alone for a long time without meeting my parents so this weekend will be a great opportunity to take them out for a luxury stay. I’ll be back with new reviews next week. By then have a fantastic weekend everyone!
