It’s Not April Fools: Qatar Airways Privilege Club Further Extended Membership Tiers To End Of This Year

It is quite surprising to see Qatar Airways Privilege Club to further extend membership tiers through the end of this year.

Qatar Airways Privilege Club Extends Membership Tiers Through December 31

In mid-January, Qatar Airways sent an email to ALL Privilege Club members that it will extend the membership tiers to March 31, 2023. In addition to the tier extension, it has also introduced a lucrative deal for elite members to retain or upgrade to existing or new tiers by offering double Qpoints.

If that were the case, those who failed to retain the tier would have been downgraded to either the Gold or Silver tier. I have also failed to reach the criteria and was expecting to be a Gold member. However, to my surprise, when I checked my Privilege Club account, my tier expiry was changed to December 31, 2023.

At first, I thought it was some sort of technical error as historically when there was a qualification review process undergoing, these issues had been shown in the past. But today, John from Loyalty Lobby also mentioned that the program has extended membership tiers.

It appears that almost all Privilege Club members’ tiers were further extended through December 31, 2023, including those who were status-matched back in 2020.

Qatar Airways Privilege Club Qcredits Are Not Extended

One of the best features of the Privilege Club is the use of Avios and Qcredits. Qcredits are awarded when members reach Gold (40 Qcredits) and Platinum(60 Qcredits) and for every 100 Qpoints earned, members will also get 10 bonus Qcredits.

Qcredits can be used to redeem upgrades, purchase additional baggage or purchase lounge access and has an expiry of 24 months. Sadly, the credits will not be extended and will expire on the date shown in your accounts.

Qatar Airways Privilege Club has once again extended the expiry dates for members’ accounts through December 31, 2023. At first, I thought it was a technical issue but I can confirm that the extension is legitimate.

It is quite interesting that this time there were no emails sent to inform members about the extension. Qatar Airways is doing very well to keep loyal members to continue to use its frequent flyer program and these kinds of surprises definitely can maintain members from leaving the program.
