With the end of the COVID-19 pandemic shining and the travel industry starting to boom, airlines are suffering from labor shortages around the world. We have seen Emirates hiring cabin crews around the world and now the Qatar Airways recruitment department is opening job positions as the country is getting ready for the FIFA World Cup next month.
Qatar Airways Special Bond With India
As the heading says, Qatar Airways has a special bond with India. Its CEO, Mr. Al Baker said:
“Qatar Airways has always had a special bond with India and with this recruitment drive, we are further solidifying our commitment to the market.”
As market conditions improve and the company grows, the airline is seeking top talent through a major recruitment campaign across India, Sri Lanka, Philippines and Morocco. India and the Philippines are one of the largest sources of recruitment for Qatar Airways.
Qatar Airways Recruitment Event In Mumbai Goes Out Of Control
Qatar Airways is one of the fastest-growing airlines in the world and with the upcoming World Cup event, the airline needs to accommodate millions of visitors.
Two weeks ago, Qatar Airways’ recruitment department posted a global recruitment advertisement on its career website. The recruitment event is scheduled to take at two different cities: Delhi (On September 16 and 17) and Mumbai (On September 29 and 30) for Indian citizens.

The airline was seeking highly motivated individuals who are ready to excel in various areas of our business, including Corporate & Commercial, Management, Cargo, Customer Service, Engineering, Culinary, Flight Operations, Ground Services, Safety, Security, Digital, Front of House, Administration, Sales and Finance.
Well, on the day of the CV drop, which was yesterday, there was utter chaos. Since Qatar Airways encouraged candidates to either upload a CV on the online application or drop it during the walk-in event, an army of candidates came on the first day of the event.
I have never seen this kind of positive response in any recruitment event such as this although it ended up in chaos.
The event in Mumbai was at Hilton Mumbai Airport and with such a large crowd of people, in the end, the majority of people got turned away and they were obviously upset as some traveled a long distance to join the event.
Here are some videos shared by disappointed candidates.
The video clearly shows how large the crowd was. It was beyond controllable.
Summary
Qatar Airways recruitment event in Mumbai just experienced something I have never seen at any hiring event. With thousands of candidates showing up to drop their CVs, the streets were gridlocked and most of them were sent back in the end.
