Now Live: Air Canada And Emirates Partnership

Back in July, Air Canada and Emirates announced a strategic partnership that will be launched in November 2022. As of December 7, 2022, both airlines now officially launched the partnership with mileage earning and redemption opportunities, elite benefits, and many more.

Details About Air Canada & Emirates Partnership

The strategic partnership between the two airlines will allow code sharing. Air Canada passengers now can travel to Dubai with Air Canada flights and connect with Emirates to their final destiatios. On the other hand, Emirates passengers flying to Toronto on Emirates can connect with Air Canada to their final destinations.

This code share agreement applies to approximately 46 routes, including North America, Asia, Middle East and Africa.

Meanwhile, the Canadian government is famous for not granting flight permits to foreign airlines to secure Air Canada’s competitiveness. But with Air Canada and Emirates’ new partnership, tere are attention being paid to the future direction of what changes the strategic alliance between both airlines can bring.

Earning & Redeeming Points On Air Canada Aeroplan When Flying Emirates

With the partnership between Air Canada And Emirates, members on each frequent flyer programs can eaern reciprocal points/miles and redeem them as well. I will go over the details about earning and redeeming points on with Aeroplan.

Aeroplan members are now able to earn points on all Emirates flights. Those flights doesnt necesarily need to be codeshared. Here are the earning rates for Aeroplan when flying on Emirates. Keep in mind that only points will be earned but it will not count towards Aeroplan’s elite qualifying status.

Aeroplan members can also redeem award seats on Emirates, including first class. While the redemption rates are not too charming given that it costs up to 750,000 points on a flights distancing 12,000 miles and above.

But if you are not flying on a ultra long-haul flights, the award rates are pretty fare given that Aeroplan does not charge fuel surcharges.

Earning & Redeeming Miles On Emirates Skywards When Flying Air Canada

Similar to Air Canada’s Aeroplan earning, Emirates Skywards members can earn miles when traveling on Air Canada flights. Again, it does not have to be code shared nor flying on both flights.

For Skywards members, the number of miles earn depends on the class of travel, fare type and distance flown. For example:

  • Economy Class passengers will earn up to 1 mile per mile flown
  • Premium Economy passengers will earn 1.1 Skywards Miles per mile flown
  • Business Class passengers will earn up to 1.5 Skywards Miles per mile flown

For redemptioms, Skywards members can spend miles on Air Canada’s domestic and international flights starting at 8,000 Miles. The award pricing are based on distance and are as follows:

Lounge Access Policies For Both Airlines

The strategic partnership will allow frequent flyer members on both program to be eligible to use oneanothter’s lounges worldwide.

Emirates Skywards Gold and Platinum members traveling in economy class on Emirates or Air Canada flights from Toronto can access the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge and Air Canada Café with one guest. Additionally, Emirates business class passengers will be eligible to use Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge and first class passengers will be welcomed to Air Canada Signature Suite.

For Air Canada’s Aeroplan members, Aeroplan’s Elite 50K, 75K, and Super Elite members traveling in Emirates economy class will be able to use the Emirates Business Lounge with one guest. And when Air Canada moves to Dubai’s Terminal later next year, members flying Air Canada flights will have access to the lounge as well.

As of December 7, 2022, Air Canada and Emirates strategic partnership which was first annouced in July is “Officialy Live.” The new partnership between both airlines allow members to earn reciprocal miles, redeem on flights, and many more benefits.
