For the first time in a year, Qatar Airways is back with a bonus when purchasing Avios through the Privilege Club website. It is not an everyday opportunity to purchase Privilege Club Avios so if you need extra Avios for your redemption, it will be your opportunity to buy some with bonuses.
Get A 40% Bonus On Qatar Airways Privilege Club Avios Purchases
Qatar Airways Privilege Club is offering a 40% bonus on Avios purchased through November 17, 2022. This is the first time Qatar Airways is offering a bonus on purchased Avios since December last year.
How Many Qatar Airways Privilege Club Avios Can You Buy
The Privilege Club program allows members to buy, gift, or transfer up to 250,000 Avios per calendar year before factoring in bonuses. Furthermore, members can buy, gift or transfer Avios in blocks of 1,000 Avios and must have earned a minimum of 1,000 Avios since enrolment to purchase additional Avios.
So if you need to purchase Avios on Qatar Airways, you would need a minimum of 1,000 Avios whether earned or transferred from British Airways, credit card, hotels, etc. to be eligible for mileage purchases. The purchased Avios will be credited within 72 hours.
With the 40% bonus offer, members can earn a minimum of 1,400 Avios to a maximum of 350,000 Avios.
Qatar Airways Avios Cost
The Privilege Club charges US$35 for a block of 1,000 Avios and the price per Avios decreases as the amount goes higher. For example, with the current bonus promotion applied, it costs between 2 cents ~ 2.5 cents per Avios.
US$7,000 is quite pricey but given that I usually earn 106,000 Avios after spending nearly US$5,000, this is not a bad opportunity.
Other Ways To Earn Qatar Airways Avios
If you think spending up to $7,000 is a burden, there are others ways you could earn Avios. First of all, you can transfer, Citi ThankYou points directly to Qatar Airways or by transferring Marriott Bonvoy points at a rate of 3:1 to Privilege Club.
No, Citi credit cards? No problem. You can now transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points, Capital One and AMEX Rewards point to British Airways Executive Club, Aer Lingus AerClub, or Iberia Plus and then transfer between accounts too.
Redeeming Qatar Airways Avios
With the recent adoption of Avios as Privilege Club currency, there are more options to flexibly redeem the Avios on Qatar Airways and partners such as British Airways, Iberia and Aer Lingus. Members are also allowed to transfer Avios between the four different accounts free of charge.
Qatar Airways offers great award redemption rates on many routes throughout the year. I recently redeemed 440,000 Privilege Club Avios on my European tour from economy to first class. Here are some of the Avios needed for redemption based on the Platinum tier (5% award online discount):
- A one-way business class from Doha to Europe costs 40,850 Avios
- A one-way first class from Bangkok to Zurich costs 106,875 Avios
- One-way business class from the US to Doha costs 66,500 Avios

Qatar Airways offers bonuses mostly on purchased tickets but rarely when buying miles. So this is not an everyday deal the Privilege Club is offering on purchased Avios as the last time it offered bonuses was last December.
