Back in 2014, Qantas and Thailand’s boutique airline, Bangkok Airways first began a partnership with a codeshare agreement. And a month ago, the partnership between the two airlines was further enhanced by allowing Qantas Frequent Flyer members to redeem points on Classic Flight Reward seats with Bangkok Airways.
Redeem Qantas Frequent Flyer Points On Bangkok Airways
Previously, only Qantas Frequent Flyers Points and status credits were earned when booking Qantas codeshared Bangkok Airways flights. But as of November, this has changed as members are now able to redeem Classic Flight Reward seats on Bangkok Airways.
With the new partnership, Qantas members can redeem seats from more than 20 Bangkok Airways routes. Also if redeemed as a Qantas codeshared flight, passengers do not have to hassle rechecking their baggage as it will interline with Bangkok Airways. The destinations include:
- Thailand: Bangkok to Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Koh Samui, Krabi, Sukhothai, Lampang
- Cambodia: Phnom Penh, Siem Reap
- Myanmar: Yangon
- Singapore to Koh Samui
Qantas Loyalty CEO Olivia Wirth said:
“We want our members to be able to use their Qantas Points on reward seats to as many destinations as possible and our portfolio of partner airlines means they can choose from hundreds of locations across the globe.
Thailand is one of the most popular destinations for our frequent flyers and this partnership will make it easier for them to explore more of the region using their points.
The option to book reward seats on Bangkok Airways’ expansive network across Thailand and South East Asia will also open up thousands of new redemption opportunities.
Reward seats continue to be great value and there are millions available for booking now across domestic and international routes for the next year on Qantas, Jetstar and our partner airlines.”
Qantas Frequent Flyer Points Needed To Redeem Bangkok Airways Flights
The Bangkok Airways partnership follows recent initiatives from Qantas Frequent Flyer to expand members’ opportunities to use their points on flights including 100,000 Classic Flight Reward seats between Australia and Japan, and the extension of our commitment for 50% more reward seats until June 2023.
Here are some published examples of the number of Points needed to redeem on Bangkok Airways flights. Since Bangkok Airways mainly operates domestic or short-haul international routes, the number of points required is reasonable, starting with 10,000 points mostly on domestic networks.
Benefits Of Qantas Frequent Flyer When Traveling On Bangkok Airways
There are great benefits included in Qantas codeshare services operated by Bangkok Airways. Similar to Qatar Airways Privilege Club elites, Qantas elites can access either Qantas Lounge(If available) or Bangkok Airways lounge at all locations.
The entry regulations though are not specified on Bangkok Airways’ side as in the past I was allowed to enter the lounge on non-Qatar Airways codeshared flights.
Not only the lounge access but there are also some more benefits such as priority check-in and boarding for eligible elites and business class passengers.
Qantas Frequent Flyer members are now able to redeem Points on Bangkok Airways flights. Thanks to the new partnership between the two airlines. Starting with 10,000 Points plus taxes, Qantas members are able to make separate or a connecting redemption for smoother travel experiences from Australia.
