Review: Courtyard by Marriott Seoul Botanic Park

With the launch of Marriott Bonvoy’s Fall 2022 Global Promotion, I decided to stay at one of the Marriott properties in Seoul that I always wanted to visit: Courtyard by Marriott Seoul Botanic Park.

There are currently four Courtyard properties within Seoul of which I have only been to one as I mostly collect my stays to retain my status either at Moxy or Fairfield Seoul as they offer the cheapest rate. However, this weekend, I decided not to delay much longer and planned to visit Courtyard Seoul Botanic Park which was near where I was.

Courtyard By Marriott Seoul Botanic Park Location

The Courtyard Botanic Park is located one station from Gimpo International Airport, near Seoul Botanic Park. Its close vicinity to both Seoul station, and Gimpo Airport as well as a direct link to Incheon International Airport made the hotel convenient for visitors to stay and travel around Seoul.

The hotel is also within walking distance of a lot of Korean restaurants and convenience stores. So if you are craving foods, you’ll have a hard time deciding where to eat.😉

Courtyard By Marriott Seoul Botanic Park Check-In

I checked in pretty late around 9 PM after having dinner with my grandparent. Prior to arrival, I messaged the hotel using the Mariott Bonvoy app and notified my estimated arrival time so that the front desk can prepare my room once I arrive at the hotel.

The lobby area was bright and had a natural atmosphere with plants and wooden-themed interior designs.

Friday evenings are always crowding at hotels but as I arrived, the hotel lobby was empty and I was able to check in and get my room key in a swift.

Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite and above members are automatically entitled to receive complimentary breakfast, room upgrade, and 500 points and on top of that members can choose one of five welcome gift options.

The welcome gift ranged from extra 500 points, bath, and facial products to a glass of red/white wine.

I chose the extra 500 points instead as I did not need any extra amenities. But to my surprise, the front desk staff also gave me a glass of red wine as a welcome gift. This was a very warm and generous approach from the front desk recognizing its elite members.

Courtyard By Marriott Seoul Botanic Park Guest Room, Park View

With the check-in formalities done within 5 minutes, I was assigned to room 911. Due to the high load on weekends, I was not upgraded to a standard suite instead I was upgraded to Park View Room.

My room featured 301sqft or 28sqm of standard room size with two large double beds and a tub and shower combination in the bathroom. However, there was no work desk but only a coffee table with two armchairs.

The beds were soft and comfortable and made me completely fall asleep without any disturbance.

In front of the entry, the wardrobe is located right behind the door while the mini-fridge and glassware are all kept inside the cabinet area beside the luggage rack storage.

Bathrobes, sleepers, and in-room safety box are located inside the wardrobe.

The room also features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Seoul Botanic Park. One interesting feature the hotel rooms have are the walls are made out of eco-friendly clay walls. These clay substances tend to regulate relative humidities allowing the building to breathe while absorbing toxins, odors and sound. They also help to regulate temperature passively and are easily repaired.

Power outlets and USB charging ports are readily available all around the room. The main light switches are located under the lamps in between the beds in the double bedroom.

The hotel has guest rooms with different layouts. Some had only walk-in showers while some had tub and shower combinations. There were differences with the work desk too. I noticed there are rooms that had a desk while others only had a coffee table. I think it depends on the location and the bed type in the room.

My room featured a combination of a huge tub and a rainforest shower. But during the shower, you should be careful that the water tends to spill out of the tub and makes the floor slippery.

While other Marriott properties take part in sustainability projects, I can see Courtyard Seoul Botanic Park is winning on this part. I really like the approach of the hotel to sustainability and being eco-friendly.

Courtyard By Marriott Seoul Botanic Park Garden Kitchen Restaurant

Breakfast was served at the Garden Restaurant locates on the first floor. During the weekend, a breakfast buffet was served from 06:30 AM to 10 AM. I was advised to be at the restaurant by 9:40 AM latest as the restaurant wrapped up the breakfast service by 10 AM.

The restaurant was pretty crowded around 9:20 AM but buffets were replenished constantly by the restaurant staff. There was a variety of breakfast options from international to Korean cuisines and a live cooking station for noodles and eggs are located in between the buffet areas.

Since I went for breakfast a little late, I did not have to chance to try a wide variety of breakfast options but with the food and drinks I had, the quality of the meals was great and fresh.

Beside the entrance of the restaurant, there was an area for coffee machines and teas. There are almost 14 different kinds of teas in a mixture of filter-type teabags and mesh types, the most I have seen in Seoul.

The coffee and tea station offered both in-restaurant dining and take-away cups for guests’ convenience.

Courtyard By Marriott Seoul Botanic Park Executive Lounge

Courtyard Seoul Botanic Park used to have an executive lounge on the 15th floor but as of June 30, 2022, it ceased operation and currently remains closed until further notice.

Hopefully, the lounge will open soon as it offers a great view of aircraft taking off and landing at Gimpo International Airport and will be an attractive location for planespotters like me.

Courtyard By Marriott Seoul Botanic Park Gym

The fitness center is located on the B1 floor of the hotel. After getting out of the elevator, there is a sign on the wall that leads you to the hallway. Walking a little inside the hallway, on the left is the gym.

The gym is accessible with a room key card and operates 24 hours. There are many different gym equipments to exercise with private lockers on one end and towel racks.

With the launch of Marriott Bonvoy’s 2022 Fall Global Promotion, this weekend, I visited and stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott Seoul Botanic Park to earn some extra points. This hotel is the second Courtyard property I have stayed at in Seoul and I was really satisfied in terms of staff friendliness, room conditions and dining.

Another thing I was impressed about the hotel is being as eco-friendly as possible. With many hotel properties going green nowadays, it surely is a good thing to see Courtyard following in its footsteps.
