Review: Westin Doha Hotel & Spa Guest Room

Review: Westin Doha Hotel & Spa Guest Room

It has been quite a while since I last stayed at Westin Doha. The hotel is one of my most-stayed hotels given its close vicinity to malls and restaurants.

After arriving in Doha at 2 AM from Phuket, it was too early to check in for the hotel so I contacted Westin through Marriott Bonvoy chat and the front desk was happy to allow me to check in around 6 AM. Yet I still had at least 3 hours to spend so I went to the Al Maha arrival lounge to get some sleep in its quiet area.

When it was around 6 AM, I called and took an Uber ride which took me around 15 minutes and yes, I have finally arrived at the hotel.

In this review, I will briefly go through the features of the Guest Room as this was a temporary room before the suite was available. I will review the full hotel in my next post together with the suite.

Booking Westin Doha Hotel & Spa

For this reservation, I used 15,500 Marriott Bonvoy points for an award stay. The hotel really offered great point redemption rates whereas I would have to pay between $200 ~ $300 in cash for a night. Westin does have points rates of around 15,000 to 17,000 points so it was my first choice over other Marriott properties.

Westin Doha Hotel & Spa Location

The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Doha near the old town. It is 20 minutes from Hamad International Airport and also nearby to metro called Bin Mahmood station. There are numerous hotels around this area including malls and cafes.

Westin Doha Guest Room

As I mentioned above, this room review will be focused on the guest room only.

After my early check-in at the hotel, I received a key to my temporary room 369 which is the standard guest room located on the third floor. The hotel offers 365 guest rooms including suites and is one of the largest Marriott properties in Doha, Qatar.

The hotel has two sections of rooms where half of the rooms are located in the main building where the front desk and main entrance are located on the other half are located in the other section which is near the spa and gym.

In the main building where the front desks are located, there are around 31 rooms including suites.

The standard guest room at this hotel is already a junior suite size offering a spacious 538 sqft or 50 sqm of space. Compared to other properties, Westin has one of the largest standard rooms with large baths.

As I enter the room, the first thing on the entranceway will be the bathroom with a large wardrobe. You will have the option to hang your clothing either in the wardrobe with the door or an open one.

Under the open hangers, there are a few drawers as well as an in-room safe.

Opposite the wardrobe, there is a large bathtub overlooking the bedroom. I really like every room having a large separate shower and bathtub. Design-wise I find it satisfying.

Beside the bathtub has a separate rainforest shower stall. Since Marriott eliminated single-use shower toiletries bottles, there are pump dispensers attached beside the valves.

Westin exclusively uses the White Tea brand for its shower amenities. I am not a big fan of these amenities since they make my skin go a little dry in addition to Qatar’s dry weather so I prefer using my own shower kits.

There are two separate sinks in the bathroom with more amenities on a tray in between. Basic toiletries such as toothbrushes and shaving kits are available in the tray.

Opposite the shower stall, the toilets are located in a separate area with a sliding door. In the toilet, there is also a bidet and a bidet spray are also installed.

Now getting back to the main area of the room, there is a cabinet with a fridge and glassware, a 48-inch internet TV, a work desk and a sofa.

Inside the cabinet offers complimentary mineral waters, a Nespresso coffee machine with coffee capsules, an electric kettle and glassware. Before the pandemic, the hotel offered ‘paid’ snacks and drinks however when I visited, there were not displayed in them.

Beside the cabinet, there is a wooden work desk with two seats facing each other. One chair had wheels on while the other did not. The desk had a table lamp, phone and multiple charging outlets under the cover.

Westin’s Heavenly bed is one of my favorite hotel bedding. And this hotel also had comfortable and fluffy bedding which I love. Different rooms have different bed types but for a single bed-type room, a king bed is mostly offered.

Right in front of the bed has a large sofa with a small table. Keep in mind the table is quite heavy to move and since it is very durable, be careful not to hit your body parts; it will definitely bruise you.😅

Beside the bed, there is a rather outdated Bose Wave music system that is more used for alarms since the device has no Bluetooth function but instead an AUX cable for speaker connectivity.

Since nobody listens to CD music or radio nowadays, I think this should be changed to something that is compatible with new-generation smartphones.

Light switches that are touch-enabled are installed beside the bed. There are a few different lighting options you can choose from.

Summary

I stayed at Westin Doha Hotel & Spa for a night in February and I was able to experience both the standard guest room as well as the suite which will be reviewing in my next post. As I checked in at the hotel really early, I was initially given a temporary guest room until my suite was ready in the afternoon.

The guest room is large and equivalent to some of the other properties’ junior suites. It also offered a large bathroom with a separate bathtub and shower area.

Even though the hotel was turning seven this year, I found the quality and comfort one of the best in Doha.
